The Grand Bazaar

Located in the middle of the Beyazit, Nuruosmaniye and Mercan neighborhoods, the Grand Bazaar is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. Spanning 30,700 square meters with 66 streets and 4,000 shops, the market is like a city within a city.

The Basilica Cistern

Built in 532 on the orders of Emperor Justinianus, the cistern was used to supply water to the palace and the people in those days. Even after the conquest of Istanbul, it continued to be used as a water source for some time.

The most mysterious feature of the 140-meter long and 70-meter wide Basilica Cistern is the Medusa Head. The statue, one of the most important works of the Roman period, is located under two columns on the northwest side of the cistern, but it is not known how it got there.

Topkapı Palace Museum
