What Is Good For Toothache?

When oral hygiene is not fully provided, many diseases, especially dental diseases, may occur. One of these ailments is toothache. Toothache is a serious health problem that can affect people of all ages. The underlying causes vary from person to person. Therefore, the cause must be determined before treatment.

What is Toothache?

Toothache is defined as severe and dull pain felt in or around a tooth. It can occur suddenly, or it can be felt while eating or drinking.

Odontalgia occurs due to various reasons such as decayed teeth, gum diseases, infection. In order not to progress and cause bigger problems, a dentist should be checked as soon as possible.

What Causes Toothache?

Teeth may ache due to different reasons. The main causes of toothache are as follows:

  • Impacted tooth
  • Gum diseases
  • Cracked teeth
  • Tooth decay
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Jaw joint disorders
  • Problems in the joints or muscles between the skull
  • Bruxism
  • Tooth abscess
  • Headaches such as migraine

What is Good For Toothache?

If you have toothache, it is very important to determine the underlying cause in order to eliminate this discomfort. In case of toothache caused by mild irritation, results can be obtained with simple applications such as salt water mouthwash. However, toothache caused by serious diseases requires the intervention of a dentist.

Especially in the presence of toothache that lasts for 1-2 days, you should apply to health institutions and get support from dentists. There are various applications that you can do against toothache within the knowledge and recommendation of your doctor. These applications are as follows:

Salt Water Gargle

Many people suffering from toothache prefer to gargle with salt water first to control this condition. Because salt water is a natural disinfectant. It also helps to clean food residues between teeth. While gargling with salt water, inflammation in the wounds in the mouth can be reduced at the same time.

Half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water is sufficient for gargling.

Thyme

Thyme has very strong antibacterial and antioxidant properties.

If you are going to apply directly with thyme oil, you should dilute the oil with water and apply it to the affected area with cotton. Thyme oil can also be used as a mouthwash by dripping one drop into a glass of water.

Garlic for Toothache

Garlic is a food that has been included in both traditional medicine practices and recipes due to its various contributions to health for thousands of years. It is also very helpful in eliminating harmful bacteria that cause plaque formation on the teeth.

In applications for toothache complaints, garlic is grated or crushed to make a paste. It is then rubbed onto the affected area. Some people may also prefer to chew raw garlic directly between the affected teeth.

Cold Applications

If the toothache is caused by an underlying trauma, then cold application to the pain area will be the best choice. During cold applications, the blood vessels in the relevant area narrow due to the decrease in temperature. In this way, a slight decrease in the feeling of pain occurs.

Clove

Cloves, like garlic, are another natural application that has been used to relieve toothache for many years. The oil contained in cloves can contribute to the control of pain sensation and the reduction of inflammation in that area.

When you feel any pain in your tooth, you should consult a dentist instead of trying to relieve this pain with your own methods. In this way, you can prevent the existing problem from progressing and causing bigger problems.
